The “Große Ruhrländische Gartenbau-Ausstellung” (Great Ruhr Landscape Gardening Exhibition or Gruga for short in German) takes place from 29 June to 13 October

Reopening as a public park

“Reich Garden Show”, expansion of the premises from 25 to 47 ha

Over 500 bombs devastate the Gruga premises and parts of the Botanical Gardens

Rebuilding and opening of the “Zweite Große Ruhrländische Gartenbau-Ausstellung” (2nd Great Ruhr Landscape Gardening Exhibition)

“Bundesgartenschau” (Federal Garden Show), expansion of the premises to its current size of about 70 ha

Construction of the tropical Show House pyramids

Construction of the glass Orangerie halls

Reconstruction of the Music Pavilion with 1200 seats
